How much wine can we consume?
The World Health Organization states that a daily dose of alcohol that a normal, healthy individual can consume should not exceed 40 or 50 grams per day, i.e. about four cups, divided between lunch and dinner.
On the other hand, we must bear in mind that the wine consumed in moderate doses and continuous (daily) has a positive impact for lipids and fats in the blood. Furthermore, alcohol also acts beneficially on cholesterol and protects the vascular layer of the arteries and veins, preventing the formation of histamine and abnormal clotting of platelets, which reduces the risk of arterial clots.
Resveratrol and Wine from La Mancha
Today, nobody doubts the preventive action against cancer and many other health benefits of the substance called resveratrol, found in grapes and wine.
Different studies, carried out at prestigious universities such as the University of Illinois in the U.S. or the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, note that wine, consumed in moderation can be beneficial to health because it reduces the incidence of cardiovascular disease and risk of carcinogenesis. These studies show that the preventive action of the wine is due to the presence of resveratrol, significant amounts are present in the skin of grapes and in many plant species.
It is interesting to note that the concentration of resveratrol in grapes and wines varies substantially depending on the weather in the area of production, crop, brightness, etc. Consequently, and as shown from studies in LA MANCHA, that due to its special agro-climate, this substance is produced in greater proportions than in other wine regions.
Regulations on wine and health
The Research Foundation of Wine and Nutrition FIVIN, makes a series of recommendations on wine consumption related to health. Wine is a drink for healthy adults, absolutely incompatible for women in gestation and infants, as well as people with alcohol addiction.
The wine is healthy only when drunk in moderation, that is, with respect, education, culture and intelligence, allowing consumers to enjoy the five senses.
The largest wine charms are in shades of color and aromas, drinking a lot or drinking faster will not increase the pleasure, but quite the opposite. Moderate wine drinking is healthy, and even recommended. Drinking wine slowly increases the time of pleasure and the pleasure itself.
Never drink wine without food, the wine is made to accompany other foods and not as an end in itself.
Harmonizing wine with food is an art itself. To absolutely exclude the abuse of wine and to reach moderate and reasonable consumption, it is necessary that the knowledge of wine is transferred from the family environment, in which the Mediterranean’s have been drinking for thousands of years, forming an essential part of our diet.
Families, and generally the elderly are more familiar with wines. It must be constructed in the main vehicle for disseminating and show an indisputable example of moderation.
It is best not to drink wine alone; the wine is to be enjoyed in the company of others and must be shared.
