Its main mission is to defend its viticulture in its area by ensuring the production, quality and promotion of their wines. Its foundation dates from 1973 and accommodates a total of 182 municipalities: 12 in Albacete province, 58 in Ciudad Real, Cuenca and 66 in 46 in Toledo.
In 2007, in compliance with the Law of Vine and Wine of Castilla-La Mancha, the regulatory body is transformed into the “Asociación Interprofesional” (Inter professional association), forming part of various agricultural, industrial and cooperative associations. Coincidentally, on the same year, the Control Board won the “Premio Alimentos de España” (Spain Food prize) to the Food Promotion, which was delivered to the president of the Control Board by the then Agriculture Minister Elena Espinosa.
